			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Sudah lebih dari sebulan membuka account blog di wordpress, tapi belum punya kesempatan untuk mengisinya. Ya maklumlah, namanya saja barusan pindahan, jadi banyak yang harus dikerjakan. Mulai dari urusan rumah, sekolah anak-anak, kampus dan sebagainya, dan sebagainya, dan sebagainya. Nah, sekarang mumpung ada sedikit waktu luang sambil menunggu running program yang belum kunjung selesai, saya sempatkan untuk menulis sesuatu di sini.</p>
<p>Saat ini saya bekerja sebagai peneliti postdoktoral di Chalmers University of Technology di kota Göteborg, sebuah kota di pantai barat Swedia. Tempat saya bekerja adalah di divisi Nuclear Engineering, Department of Applied Physics. Hmmm&#8230; TEKNIK nuklir di bawah fisika?  Well, it doesn&#8217;t matter, itu cuma masalah organisatoris belaka, yang penting adalah apa yang dikerjakan di sini.</p>
<p>Secara umum divisi teknik nuklir di sini dapat digolongkan menjadi 5 kelompok riset, yaitu:</p>
<ol>
<li>Nuclear diagnostics</li>
<li>Thermalhydraulics</li>
<li>Nuclear techniques</li>
<li>Fusion plasma physics</li>
<li>Heavy ion physics</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>A. Nuclear diagnostics</strong></p>
<p>Riset di kelompok ini menekankan penggunaan metode analisis noise terhadap reaktor nuklir untuk mendeteksi kemungkinan terjadinya keadaan abnormal pada operasi reaktor. Jadi di sini lebih banyak penekanannya ke arah neutronik.</p>
<p><strong>B. Thermalhydraulics</strong></p>
<p>Riset di sini berkaitan dengan analisis keselamatan reaktor terutama pada PLTN-PLTN Swedia yang sedang mengajukan izin untuk power uprating (peningkatan daya operasional menjadi 130% dari daya nominal sebelumnya). Dengan peningkatan daya ini apakah selama beroperasi PLTN tersebut akan berjalan dengan aman? Itulah pertanyaan mendasar yang sedang dikaji di kelompok ini.</p>
<p><strong>C. Nuclear Technique</strong>s</p>
<p>Secara garis besar, riset di bidang ini melakukan pendeteksian cacat material menggunakan teknik positron. Seperti diketahui, positron merupakan anti-materi, lebih tepatnya adalah anti-elektron. Jika positron bertemu (berinteraksi) dengan elektron maka akan terjadi anihilasi dan dihasilkan foton. Sebelum anihilasi terjadi, positron mengalami perlambatan di materi. Umur hidup positron sebelum bertemu dengan elektron tergantung dari sifat-sifat materi. Jika pada materi terdapat cacat, maka positron dapat terjebak di sana dan umur hidupnya menjadi lebih lama. Nah, pengukuran umur hidup positron ini yang dijadikan acuan untuk menentukan ada atau tidak cacat pada material.  Penggunaan teknik positron ini telah digunakan antara lain pada:</p>
<ul>
<li>baja yang teriradiasi</li>
<li>polimer dan semikonduktor</li>
<li>porositas mikro pada zeolit untuk penukar ion</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>D. Fusion plasma physics</strong></p>
<p>Riset di bidang ini menekankan studi pada plasma tak murni yang terkungkung pada medan magnet serta pengaruh instabilitasnya. Lebih lanjut penelitian ini diarahkan untuk pengembangan reaktor fusi di masa mendatang.</p>
<p><strong>E. Heavy ion physics</strong></p>

<p>Nah, dari kelima kelompok riset tersebut kira-kira saya masuk di mana? Kalau Anda mengetahui sepak terjang saya selama ini (hehehe&#8230;) dan membaca publikasi maupun penelitian yang saya lakukan, saya yakin Anda akan menjawab kelompok riset diagnostik (A) karena terkait dengan neutronik. Memang benar, background saya adalah di neutronik. Tapi jawaban Anda salah. Karena saya sekarang mencemplungkan diri (betul tidak bahasanya?) di <em>bidang termalhydraulics</em>. Lebih lanjut mengenai apa yang saya lakukan akan dibahas pada tulisan mendatang.</p>
